About

Amy is a visual artist whose painting is inspired by the natural world. She has pursued art from a young age with her interests ignited by several influential art teachers during grade school, as well as many visits to art museums growing up. After earning her Art History degree at Boston University in 2003, she developed her love of painting materials by working in art supply stores in Minnesota and NYC, then began exhibiting her paintings in New York City before moving to Los Angeles to further explore her art career there. In 2014 Amy relocated to central Virginia to be closer to family and this move to the countryside after 15 years in large cities was a strong influence on the direction of her paintings and projects. She started regularly bird watching and documenting the habitats, landscapes, and textures where she adventured and photographed birds to paint. This inspiration has resulted in a creative process that includes painting, drawing, mold-making and jewelry design.

Birds are her primary subject matter and she loves pairing them with botanical, landscape, and texture elements. Amy works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, and enjoys exploring alternative approaches to traditional painting.

In addition to her fine art, Amy was a Working Artist for Golden Artist Colors from 2008-2022. She taught and lectured in their southern California and Washington DC territories, connecting with artists through educational presentations on art materials. After 14 years of being exposed to the technical aspects of paint materials, she will forever remain a paint nerd and always welcomes conversations about the inner workings of paint itself. Amy also teaches her own art workshops nationally, offers online education, free YouTube tutorials, and published her first book in 2015.
